What to include when you contact an electrician

A short, specific request gets a faster and more useful reply than a general one. Name the town and the kind of building, say whether the work is a repair, an upgrade or a new installation, and describe anything you can observe safely: which rooms or circuits are affected, whether a breaker keeps tripping, whether anything is warm or smells, and what changed just before the problem began. You do not need the right terminology, and you do not need to know what part has failed.

For sparks, a burning smell, equipment exposed to water or an active fire, do not use this form. Leave the area and call emergency services first, then request an electrician once it is safe. The electrical estimate checklist lists what to record before a visit, and how electrical pricing works explains what an estimate is made of.

Do I need to know what is wrong before I contact an electrician?

No. Describe what you can see safely, such as flickering lights, a warm outlet or a breaker that keeps tripping, and the electrician finds the cause.

What should I do if there are sparks or a burning smell?

Leave the area and call emergency services first. Request an electrician once it is safe, and do not keep using the circuit.

Does sending the form commit me to any work?

No. The form starts a conversation, and the contractor provides a written scope and estimate before any work begins.
