Burlington Electric Department guidance

BED describes Level 2 charging as a 240-volt option and requires EV chargers covered by its program to be installed by a licensed electrician with applicable permits. Current offers, customer eligibility, deadlines, and technical requirements should be confirmed directly with BED before purchase.

What shapes the estimate

The charger itself may be only part of the project. Circuit distance, wall or trench access, panel space, load management, service changes, outdoor equipment, permits, and correction of existing deficiencies can affect the quote.

Multiple vehicles, one circuit or two

A second EV in the household does not automatically mean a second dedicated circuit. Load-management equipment can let two chargers share one circuit's capacity, alternating or splitting power between vehicles, which is often cheaper than a second full circuit run — but it also means neither vehicle charges at full rate while both are plugged in simultaneously. Whether that tradeoff makes sense depends on actual charging schedules and available panel capacity, which is worth discussing before wiring a garage for one vehicle in a household that may add a second.
