Permits, inspection and code
Low-voltage systems are less onerous than line-voltage but not unregulated: transformers must be correctly rated and installed, cabling must be supported and routed appropriately, and anything outdoors must suit wet conditions. Where low-voltage cable shares a space with line-voltage wiring, separation requirements apply.
Timing and scheduling in Vermont
Run cable during any renovation while walls are open. The marginal cost then is small and the retrofit cost is not. At minimum, run conduit so cable can be pulled later without opening finishes again.
