Build one equipment roadmap
Include heating and cooling, water heating, vehicle charging, cooking, laundry, hot tubs, workshops, additions, battery storage, solar preparation, and any resilience goals. Exact models are best; realistic ranges are still useful early in planning.
- Voltage, amperage, and manufacturer requirements
- Daily use and whether loads can be managed
- Indoor, outdoor, garage, or detached-building locations
- Expected purchase and installation dates
Separate panel space from service capacity
Breaker space, panel condition, feeder ratings, service size, and calculated load are related but different questions. A subpanel can add distribution space without increasing the utility service. A larger panel label does not by itself create more supply capacity.
Plan routes and project order
Basements, attics, garages, finished walls, trenching, equipment locations, and utility work can determine the efficient order. One planned route or service project may support several future installations, while poor sequencing can reopen finishes or repeat outage and permit work.

Verify current programs before purchase
